9:30 am - 4:30 pm
We would like to welcome you to join the first full day retreat specifically for those who teach mindfulness to young people.
Peta McAuley joins us as the guest teacher for the morning session during which we will explore our experiences with Mindfulness.
Why do we practice mindfulness? During this morning session, we will explore together what brought each of us to the practice of mindfulness, what we have observed along the way, whether our experience has changed over time and what we can expect if we continue to practice. We will also explore how our own experience as adults is similar or dissimilar to that of the children we teach.
Dr. McAuley holds a PhD in psychology and has practiced as an occupational psychologist in Hong Kong for over thirty years, offering career and general life counseling to a diverse range of clients. She has been teaching mindfulness for stress reduction and cultivating emotional balance since 2003. Between 2003 and 2012 she completed all requirements to attain CFM Certified MBSR Teacher status through the Centre for Mindfulness at UMass create by the originator of the MBSR course, Jon Kabat-Zinn; in 2010 she completed the 6 week residential Cultivating Emotional Balance (CEB) Teacher Training in Phuket, Thailand; and in 2011 she completed The Potential Project Teacher Training in Singapore.
The afternoon activities will consist of short practices, discussion time as we share our experiences, challenges, and rewards, whatever the teaching environment, as well as the opportunity to practice inquiry techniques in small groups.
This retreat day is open to those who have completed training (or are in the process of completing their training) to teach mindfulness to children/adolescents (Method Eline Snel – Mindfulness for Children (Mindfulness Matters!), MiSP .B and paws B, Mindful Schools and others) and who have delivered at least one program. We welcome mindfulness teachers from all sections of the community whether that be education, health, or private practice.
This and future full-day retreats are accepted as Professional Development days as required by the AMT certification.
