NOTE: THIS DAY RETREAT AND TRAINING HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL JUNE 3.
We would like to welcome you to join this full-day retreat specifically for those who teach mindfulness to young people.
Yoga for kids with Amber Le Scelle.
This workshop would be very hands-on allowing participants to experience all yoga poses, activities and games as if they are in a kids yoga class – within the limits of our own bodies of course:) Amber believes that is the best way to learn is to experience it ourselves – as we do with mindfulness.
Amber first discovered yoga while living in Toronto in 2007. She became so passionate about it that she took her first 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training just one year later. Since then she has been teaching and practising many different styles of yoga in Toronto, Australia and Hong Kong, including Joga (Yoga for athletes), hatha, vinyasa, prenatal and yin. While working as an international school teacher and looking to combine her love of teaching children with her love of yoga, Amber completed her second 200 hour YTT at Anahata Studio followed by their 100 hour Kids Yoga training in 2016. Through the journey of yoga she developed an interest in mindfulness and meditation and completed the MBSR in 2015 followed by the mindfulness for children programs, Mindfulness Matters and Mindful Schools. After introducing mindfulness to her school community, Amber was approached by teachers asking for simple ways they could bring mindfulness into their classrooms which led her to create a series of picture books which teach mindfulness and yoga techniques to children, The Mindful Dino Crew. Currently she teaches yoga and mindfulness classes after school and had recently partnered with Minisport HK to be the kids yoga and mindfulness teacher for their holiday and weekend programs.
Amber believes that mindfulness and yoga are the perfect pairing for students combining movement with stillness and active exercise with mindful sharing. Her classes make use of stories and picture books, drawing and colouring, crafts, songs, hands-on activities and games to keep children engaged and cater to different learning styles. She enjoys learning from other teachers and interacting with the community, sharing ideas and activities on her Facebook page, Mindful Dino Crew, and Instagram page @mindfuldinocrew. Join the crew!
The afternoon activities will consist of short meditation practices, discussion time as we share our experiences, challenges, and rewards, whatever the teaching environment, as well as the opportunity to practice inquiry techniques in small groups.
This retreat day is open to those who have completed training (or are in the process of completing their training) to teach mindfulness to children/adolescents (Method Eline Snel – Mindfulness for Children (Mindfulness Matters!), MiSP .B and paws B, Mindful Schools and others) and who have delivered at least one program. We welcome mindfulness teachers from all sections of the community whether that be education, health, or private practice.
This and future full-day retreats are accepted as Professional Development days as required by the AMT certification.
